Something she won’t survive. I step forward. Closer to the flames. Close enough to feel the heat wrap around me. To feel it recognize me. Respond to me. Because fire knows its own. And tonight? It knows exactly what I am. “This was your first move,” I murmur. Soft. Almost gentle. “But it’s going to be your last.” The fire crackles louder. Like it agrees. Like it understands. And I turn away. Because I’ve seen enough. Felt enough. Understood enough.

And then they sang—not a war song, not a victory chant, but the old lullaby once sung to new Flamekeepers: “Let the spark become the flame, Let the flame become the path, Let the path become the story— That no shadow can outlast.” As the final notes faded into the wind, Serena looked at the flame once more. And the flame… smiled.

A flame nolonger raging, but eternal. Still burning. Still theirs. Forever.

There was something glowing in my mind that was about to explode. The fleeting feelings of unknown was at the center of my thoughts. At this moment I am a prisoner in a free world.
