For a fraction of a second, the entire planet went perfectly, terrifyingly silent. Then, a heartbeat echoed. It didn't come from a chest; it came from the core of the globe. THUMP. The ground beneath Caleb and Valerius violently fractured. Blinding, flawless golden light, mixed with deep, twisting veins of Sanguine crimson, erupted from the fissures.

*** The location spell brought them to the place where Adam had Annie lie down and he tore through her abdomen with a needle. The moment Alpha stepped out of the car, his stomach dropped. It was dark so they all had torch lights with them. The sight of the place Adam had taken Annie looked disturbing. Symbols were drawn everywhere, and candle wax and dirt were everywhere. And then— Fresh Blood. Alpha’s knees weakened. Dante walked slowly around the circle. His torchlight spotted more blood on the ground. He touched the blood and sniffed it.“This… this is fresh blood.” Onika pressed a hand to her chest, like she was whispering a soft prayer. "Oh my God"

I went down. I hit the ground hard, but I wasn’t done. I rolled, came back up, and drove my shoulder into his stomach. We went down together this time, tumbling through mud and blood. He slammed me down with both hands and raised a rock over my head. “You don’t belong here,” he growled. But before he could strike, the ground beneath us shifted. It wasn’t subtle. It tore. The grass split open like something was crawling up from the very roots of the earth. A dull hum pulsed through the air, and the moonlight dimmed slightly, like something was draining the light itself.

It laughed weakly, choking on its own juices. “Her soul- it's- it's rotted! Worthless!” the incubus cackled. “You should have let me have it and saved yourself the pain-” The incubus fell silent as Samael brought his scythe down in a vicious arc, roaring with fury. He lopped off its head. I shrieked as torrents of black blood pulsed forth from the stump. Its body rose like a zombie, locked in rigor mortis as it attempted to escape.

I groaned. Lucian pouted. "Oh come on, you're no fun," he said, huffing. "Wait, do you feel that?" I asked. He halted, his eyes glowing. "Yup, I can definitely feel the drop in temperature...and of course, I can see the heat signature of a blood sucking incubus twelve feet away from us" he said, taking out his double edged blade. "Seriously, can't you ever stop rambling?" I muttered as I began to conjure a purple mist with my hands.

1, 2, 3 seconds, still no movements. Miles lifts his cousin's hand, but it falls lifeless to the ground. Miles's jaw tightens, and his body visibly trembles as horns shoot out, his shirt rips apart, making way for massive wings to fold out. Other incubus students in the school surround the dead fellow. "We want retribution!"

Then on the ground they noticed, under the leaves, the hand that contacted the ground. There is traces of dried blood, many and many blood. The sl-ve has shrank in fright at the sight, and then the whole group realised they are standing at the bloody ground.

It was raw and instinctive. Her body stumbled back before I could process it. Her foot caught awkwardly against the pavement. Then she fell. Hard. The sound of her head hitting the ground echoed louder than it should have. It felt like it rang through everything. Everything froze for a second. I couldn’t move. Then I saw it. Blood. It spread quickly beneath her head, too fast and too much. The sight knocked the air out of me. “Fuck,” I breathed, the word tearing out of my chest.

My home was dark, the silence heavy as I poured a glass of whiskey, the burn grounding me. I grabbed a calendar from the counter, my eyes locking on tomorrow’s date, circled in red—the Blood Moon. The frat party. The night they’d try to kill her. My vision flashed again—her heart torn out, blood pooling under that cursed moon. I downed the whiskey, my hand shaking as I set the glass down.
