I whip myself around to face him, "Give me my daily dose of snow— now." Raze whips out a syringe of my snow, and hands it over to me, "Here, boss." I push up the sleeve of my coat, flexing my arm until my veins come into view. Then I stab the needle into my vein, momentarily closing my eyes. For a heartbeat, nothing happens, then— Boom. Warmth explodes in my veins like liquid fire in my dry veins. It reaches my heart in seconds, slamming hard once, then twice. The rush surges upwards to my neck, climbing to my skull, exploding fragments of sweet bliss in my brain.

He leans in, his mouth seeking hers, and when they touch, a fountain of black bile erupts from her throat into his. He chokes on it, his body arching, his skin beginning to crack and bleed as the dark power forces its way into his veins. I can see the veins in his neck turning black, bulging like worms beneath his skin. "They're vesting him," Myra gasps, clutching my arm so hard her nails draw blood. "Look at his back!"

"Hang in there, Sarah," "What about sucking it out?" Lucy suggested. "Do you think it can work?" Sandra asked me, hope rising in her voice. It was unlikely. Venom travelled very fast once it reaches the bloodstream, sucking it out of her leg could cause an infection. It could also possibly cause harm to the person doing the sucking if it turned out they had a cut in their mouth. I kept quiet because I did not want to get anyone panicking any further, especially Sandra who seemed out of it a second ago.

It felt like fire spreading through my veins, burning toward my core. "No," I growled, pushing forward to the bathroom. I slammed the door behind me, leaning over the sink. Unlike Ava's prescription, I knew I barely had a few days left. The veins were awfully too close to my heart now, dark lines creeping under my skin like poison. 'I gave you an order.' "And I said no." I groaned, grabbing my chest so hard the skin started cracking, blood welling up under my nails. The pain was excruciating, like shards of glass grinding inside me.

"The worst thing that can happen is that I'll turn into a Smurf." I laughed, glad to see that he was keeping his sense of humor about this and being such a good sport. "Okay, well, let's proceed." I rolled up his sleeve, revealing his taught muscles. "Clench your fist, please." After he complied, the veins in his wrist popped up immediately. "You know, you can always inject it directly into my jugular vein," Kellen said, matter of fact. "It will go into my bloodstream quicker." "Well, let's begin with your arm," I said, flicking the syringe with my fingertip as I held it up to the light. "Ready?"

The whispers in the glass started to fade, drowned out by the wet sounds of our bodies slapping together and the desperate, animalistic sounds we were making. Vane was at my neck before I even registered the movement, his teeth sinking into my throat so hard I felt my blood well up and spill down my collarbone. His venom burned as it surged through my veins, hot and electric and so potent that I felt my toes curl against the glass. He was feeding me his venom, pumping it directly into my bloodstream, marking me from the inside out.

He moved the edge over her neck painfully slow before pressing it to her throat promisingly. "Do you know the most fragile vein is located around here? It's directly connected to the artery in charge of pumping most of the blood that's being circulated through out the body. One puncture and you will bleed to death" He told her teasingly as he continued to work the knife further before moving it away to stare back at her reaction and it was overly satisfying as the corner of his lip pulled up in a little smile before his expression turned dark yet again.

I reply, "that's what I've done." They grab me, force me to my knees, Voss pulls out a syringe filled with clear liquid. "What is that?" I ask. "Vervain," he says, "concentrated, it's your father's orders, we're going to inject it directly into your bloodstream, it will render you immobile, weak, unable to even think about escaping again." "No," I say, "please, don't." "Should have thought of that before you broke out," Voss says, pushing the needle into my arm.

I leaned against the wall for a second, a wave of dizziness washing over me. I gave nearly two pints of blood. My body is strong, but even I am not immune to the physical drain. I roll up my left sleeve, looking at the crook of my elbow. A dark purple bruise is forming where the needle went in. I run my thumb over it. It throbs, a dull ache that matches the one she must be feeling in her arm. Good.

The pain rolled through me in waves, deep and hot and suffocating, starting from my chest and spreading outward until my fingers tingled and my knees buckled. I stumbled to the bed and collapsed onto it, breath already coming in short broken pulls. Then it got worse. My vision blurred and then sharpened in a way that made no sense. I could see my arms. My chest. My hands clutching the sheets. But underneath that, deeper, I saw something else. My blood. I do not know how to explain it without sounding insane. I could see it moving. Dark. Too dark even. Not the bright red you see in textbooks or movies. This was thick and shadowed, almost black, rushing through my veins like it carried weight
