"But the blood... it’s too dark. It looks like the same stuff we saw in the valley." I leaned over the wound, my stethoscope pressed to the man’s chest. The heartbeat was erratic, a frantic, fluttering rhythm that didn't match the volume of external blood loss. I pulled a syringe from the tray, drawing a small sample of the fluid pooling in the entry wound. It wasn't just blood. It had a strange, milky viscosity to it, a chemical sheen that caught the harsh light of the room.

~ Ivy ~ The first thing I felt was a slow, heavy throb behind my eyes. It felt like a dull metal hammer hitting the inside of my skull over and over. Then came the smell. It was sharp and clean, like bleach and cold plastic. I blinked. The light above me was too bright, making my eyes water. I tried to lift my right arm to block the glare, but something pulled tight against the back of my hand. A small plastic tube was taped to my skin, and a clear liquid was dripping down from a tall metal pole.

I cry, scrambling as much as the restraints allow, but it is useless. The syringe finds my vein. Pain lances through me, hot, searing, and spreading. My vision blurs at the edges as the wolfsbane eats into my bloodstream.

I should get off the floor and get back to bed. Lifting my arms from my knees, I looked down but stopped when I saw the inside of my elbow, where Sara had drawn blood. Dark blue veins were visible around the area where she had drawn blood. I might have never had my blood drawn like this, but I knew damn well that it wasn’t normal. “Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.” I repeated in my head as I stared at it. Maybe I wasn’t pregnant, and I had been infected. Panicked, I began looking over my body for signs that I had been scratched or bitten. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary when I was in the shower last, but I figured I missed something.

I closed my eyes for a second and tried not to think about anything. I heard a loud crash and opened my eyes. Pieces of glass were flying around in the car. I looked at the driver and his head was on the wheel. I was still seated behind the passenger's seat but my head hurt a lot. Placing my left hand by the left side of my head and bringing my hand to my eyes I saw a liquid substance, is that blood? I asked myself. It was my blood, I tried taking in my surroundings and trying to understand what just happened. The door opened and someone dragged me out of the car.

I opened my eyes abruptly and gasped at the unpleasant sensation, and the light from the ceiling bothered me. I brought my hands to my eyes but realized they were attached to something, and when I focused my vision, I could see with horror that I had blood vessels attached to my arms.

Forcing my eyes open, I looked down at my hand, seeing my veins a deep blue, a sign the drug was exiting my system. My eyes were irritated, but I ignored them as I sat up in the bed and looked around the room I was in, realizing it was the guest room.
