I placed one hand on the mid column of my neck trying to stop the uncomfortable feeling. I looked at my reflection on the mirror of the dresser opposite to my bed. My skin turned paler than a white paper. Blue veins were prominent . My irises were deep crimson red. My canines extended not in wolf teeth but vampire's. It had been a long time since I had blood.

‘THEY’RE BREAKING IT NOW! The needle slides into the right side of my neck, the plunger depressing with agonising slowness. The sensation is immediate: liquid nitrogen injected directly into my veins, freezing everything it touches. I can feel it spreading, a horrific cold that burns worse than fire. It targets the invisible threads connecting me to Zane.

As I lift my head, a sharp pain shoots through my neck and my vision blurs, likely due to the drugs I've been pumped with. Aimlessly, my gaze sweeps the room and I can't help but think that wild animals have better living conditions than this place. I also take note that there is an IV sticking out the top of my hand. So… this is what they have been using to pump the drugs into my system. They need me awake, but they don't want me to be fully alert. Lovely. The veins in my body feel icy cold until a machine goes off and all of a sudden, my veins feel like lava is flowing through them.

The sight sent a weak spark of anger through the fog in his mind. His eyes drifted around the room. It was Kieran’s bedroom. But it was different now. A tall, silent IV stand stood sentinel beside the bed. A clear tube snaked down from a bag, ending in a needle taped to the inside of his right elbow. But the liquid in the bag wasn’t clear. It was a pale, shimmering gold, and it was slowly, steadily dripping into his vein. That explained the weakness. It felt like all his bones had been replaced with lead.

Suddenly, a strange, burning sensation flared right in the center of my chest. It wasn’t the pain of the void, and it wasn’t the physical echo of his injuries. The permanent claim-mark on my neck began to pulse, but it didn’t glow with gold or silver light. It began to bleed a thick, glowing violet liquid—the exact color of theNull-Serum.

“Yours will.” He lifts my wrist to his mouth. Kisses the vein. I feel his cold lips trace the blue line from my wrist toward my elbow, his tongue tasting my pulse at various points, choosing. He settles on the spot where my pulse is strongest – the inside of my wrist where the skin is thin and the vein is close. He bites. The venom enters my bloodstream at the wrist and I track its journey – up my forearm, through my bicep, across my shoulder, into my chest. One second. Two. It reaches my heart.

Lira (POV) I can feel the silver in my blood now. Not just burning—but grinding, like microscopic shrapnel chewing through my veins, slicing every time my heart dares to beat. It hisses against my bones and ignites my nerves like a fire, threading itself through my muscles like barbed wire soaked in acid.

A doctor brings out a syringe with a white liquid, and injects the liquid right into her vein. As I stand in my position, I notice how weak my legs have become. Elara’s words, screams, and the pain in her eyes made my hand vibrate at my side. I was consumed by deep hurt, and was lost for what to do. My heartbeat keeps pounding in my chest. I could tell the weakness I felt within was laced on my face.

They traced over my neck for the right vein. A shiver shot through my spine. Then there was a sting like the jab of two needles. But the pain was over quickly and replaced by indescribable bliss. The vampire's venom could heighten a victim if chose to. And I felt a strange sensual feeling rushed into my system. My back arched with an unidentified pleasure.

The heavy hum of the vacuum pump filled the room. The pain was unlike anything I had ever experienced. As the dark, highly toxic crimson fluid began to flow from my veins into the clear plastic tubing, it felt like my very soul was being drained through a straw. My vision blurred, fracturing into jagged shards of black and white. The strength drained from my limbs, my muscles going entirely limp against the steel table, but I bore it. I clamped my jaw shut until my teeth creaked, refusing to give Vane the satisfaction of hearing me beg.
