An innocent angel he had tainted, ruined and tormented on his own and in the most cruellest way possible. He was aware of the damage he had caused to her by using those barbaric choice of words for her. He was aware of the vicious pain he had inflicted on her soul with his behaviour. He was aware of the destruction he had done to her heart by revealing to her that he hated her and was playing with her all this time and he did all of this to make sure she would give up on him as soon as possible. He had expected her to hate him by now but she was still waiting for him. Her innocuousness was her biggest blessing and her most painful curse and he understood it really very clearly till now.

He asked, still unsure about her behaviour, while caressing her lips. She shuddered. "I don’t know why you ask me the same question... And what does it mean to be innocent...?" She tilted her head like an innocent child, giving him no room to doubt further. He took a step back, handling her scarf while wrapping it around her neck. He saw the marks of passion or a cruel act he didn’t know about. Maybe last night he did. She was saying the truth. "Wear some other full-sleeve and full-neck dresses."

But my mournful ululation wasn't because of the insincerity of his words but because I was trying to find even a trace of truthfulness in his voice. I wanted to drown in the comfort of his hold, I wanted to place my lips on his to show that I appreciated his comforting words, I wanted to close my eyes and let my heart call out to him because it believed in the words he said. He just shrugged and then his expression changed and my heart skipped a beat. I was afraid of what he was about to say next. "Change of plans P."he announced and I blinked. No...no no no.... This was not happening. "What is that supposed to mean?"I asked my hand forming a fist.

I said in defence. He scoffed incredulously, looking at me like I had just told him the biggest lie of the year. I just didn’t get why people find it so hard to believe I’m innocent. That I didn’t have the mind and heart to carry out such gruesome acts. First, it was Robert, Martin, every member of their family, and now, Noah of all people. Moving into this city to start my life afresh, I never imagined a day like this would happen. “That is such a clever way to cover up.”

He’s here too, patiently waiting for me. “Boss,” he says as I start to bounce down the stairs. “Frankie,” I say. “Go to the cashier’s window and post bail for Leah Thomas.
