I lay motionless on the ground, staring blankly upward like a corpse whose soul had been ripped away. Scenes from the past replayed before my eyes one after another.

War made quick work of snapping her fragile neck, the sound of the spine severing with the lead. He closed his eyes and listened and waited for her death to come. People automatically thought snapping or twisting someone neck killed them instantly but it took a few seconds to a few minutes for them to actually die.

I was killing her. I don’t know why I didn’t let go when she was wiggling; I didn’t know I was adding another number to my list. I didn’t mean to kill her. When I finally let go of her, she motionlessly fell on the floor. I was alarmed because I still expected her to fight but she was not moving. I didn’t know I had just killed her. I checked her pulse and there was none. My whole body froze, my head spun, and I lost consciousness.

He asked them harder. “Do you understand what I'm talking about?” he asked, and they nodded. "Good, it means she is off-limit. Tell everyone that knows everyone, Chloe Miller is off-limit. No one as much as looks at her, not to talk of asking her out or trying to score with her.” He said, releasing his hold on them. "You hear me?” he asked, gripping Dilan now. When they nodded, he focused entirely on the idiot he was holding, and then he punched him square in the face. He surely deserved that. "That's for calling me an ass.”
