"I'm sorry, I can't—"
"Don't apologize. Never apologize." I rubbed her back until the waves passed. "Better?"
She nodded, wiping her mouth with a tissue.
"Kane's going to pay for this," I said quietly.
"All of it."
The subway was crowded with morning commuters—perfect cover. We bought MetroCards with cash and disappeared into the crowds heading toward Manhattan. Forty minutes later, we emerged in Chinatown. The assault on the senses was immediate: fish markets, herb shops, street vendors selling dumplings and knockoff purses, tourists taking photos, and old Chinese men playing chess in the park. It was the perfect place to hide in plain sight.
