His arms wrapped around me, and I was pulled into his chest. My body was flooded with warmth. There was no better place to be than here.

Safe in my arms. We had won.

His whole posture was casual, almost mocking. I scowled, wiping at my face, only to spot the smeared makeup on the back of my hand. “I know this is your house, but ever heard of knocking?” He shrugged. “I did. Not my fault that you were too busy having a meltdown to notice.” He stepped into the room and closed the door with a soft click. Before I could protest, he grabbed my arm and pulled me upright. “Stop crying. It’s getting on my nerves.”

She just held me, solid and warm and unwavering. And in her arms, something inside me finally softened. Maybe I wasn’t broken. Maybe I was just bending. And maybe—just maybe—that was okay.

Mandy soothed. I let myself collapse into her arms, reminding myself I didn’t have to carry this weight alone.

Hitting my head against the toned frame. And in seconds. I was in his arms. Breathless. Shaking.

His face buried in my torso. My arms instinctively go around him, wrapping around his broad shoulders. My fingers thread through his thick, dark hair at the nape of his neck, the soft strands a welcome contrast to the rough fabric of his suit jacket. I pull him closer, wanting to merge with him, to disappear into the protective bubble of his arms, and let the world outside simply cease to exist.

His arm tightened around me. Sleep pulled at me, safe in the arms of the man who had become my everything.

Rhino pressed his forehead against Calista's and tried to calm himself by breathing heavily. He said in his mind, "I can't live without you my love. I will bring you to myself very soon. Then I will keep you captive in my chest for the rest of my life. I will not let you go anywhere else. I will hide you in myself where no trouble can touch you. I will pour all the happiness in the world at your feet. You will be the queen of my kingdom."
