She countered hitting a sensitive spot. I narrowed my eyes and her expression softened. “I only say the truth, do what you can with it.” She turned on her heel then walked away. I lowered my gaze to the book in my hands. My pulse thudded against the leather cover. It's time to face the truth. I swallowed, lifted the book, and whispered, “Show me the people in the water.” The pages trembled, fluttering as if caught in a breeze only the book could feel. Then it stilled. A single sentence bled across the page in dark red ink:

The water looked so refreshing and I couldn’t help myself wanting to take a swim in the summer heat today. Slowly, I walked into the water and dove down under its surface as I got to the deeper area. I never realized how peaceful it was under the water as it made every sound around me disappear and left my mind free of everything around me. When I came back to the surface, I could hear sounds of a wolf approaching and I quickly began to swim towards the waterfall and dove down under it like Beta Shawn showed me that first time we were together.

I knelt and dipped my finger. It was water indeed. On my finger coming in contact with the liquid, it formed a ripple. I dipped my entire hand into the liquid and my skin came in contact with a hard substance. The white light dimmed and my fingers curled on the cover of the book which was clearly seen under the water. I pulled it out, some of the water falling on my sweater and stood on my feet. The lake beneath me disappeared and morphed back into the hard ground. My feet was no more dipped into the water. My clothes weren’t drenched either. It was all magic I believed.

I manage to make it into the shower and turn the tap on before slumping to the floor. The waters so cold it makes my teeth clatter and my skin to break out in goosebumps. But the fire’s still burning. It burns my fingertips against my drenched clothes. It burns my touching thighs. It burns a path on my cheeks from the silent tears. It burns my lungs with every laboured breath. The perfect leather bound book scent hits me and sweet relief engulfs me the moment warm hands cup my cheeks. “Danika?” His voice is panicked. “What’s wrong?” He wipes the tears form my cheeks and I sob in relief.

I once read in a book that drowning was a peaceful way to pass, just one intake of water and your lungs can no longer work properly. It's like going to sleep and never waking up. For a split second I thought about doing it, just to get the pain I was feeling to be over. my cold body and begging for a fresh breath of air.
