June shoved aside the cabinet blocking the checkout counter and pulled them into the narrow space behind it, guiding them out one by one. Once all three were out, she turned immediately, leading them after Hayley. Zombies poured in from every direction, flooding the streets and shops until everything was packed with them. Zach suddenly realized something: every single zombie was being held back by an invisible barrier. They lunged forward with twisted faces, jaws stretched wide. Their bloody mouths gaped open like bottomless pits, ready to tear out their throats, rip into muscle, split open their stomachs, and drag out their insides.

The shelter’s main gate collapsed, and a tide of zombies poured inside, roaring and screeching. “Honey, this one’s on you.” I hid behind her and pointed at the incoming swarm. Ruth raised her hand without a trace of emotion. As a deep, dull hum filled the air, the dozen zombies charging in front exploded instantly into clouds of blood mist. Flesh and blood splattered across the walls. The zombies behind them hadn’t even had time to react before a horrifying force crushed them flat into pulp. This was the S-class ability—gravity manipulation. It was the ultimate wipe-out skill.

“Jordan is that way. Rave, cut us a path.” Rave, Ulric and Halee sped forward, joining their two comrades in battling the zombies. So fierce and quick was the volkaane attack that they opened a gash twenty feet wide in the zombie ranks. No longer fettered by the need to avoid the bands of black magic, Dominic, Leesa and Cali ran into the gap. Zombies fell in behind them. The humans were now surrounded by hungry zombies.

Mama narrowed her eyes as she hit lightly on my back with the rolling pin, "At least respect your mother and don't curse in front of me." I huffed, I barely cursed but some people tended to grate on my nerves. Rolling my eyes, I let myself out of the bed, "Whoever this god is, we will make him eat his words. He is so gonna regret it." "Just don't go near him," Mama sighed as she watched me brush my teeth, "He is a Victor." My eyebrows scrunched as I met her eyes through the mirror, "The Victors?" She nodded. "Why would Victors come to our restaurant?" My voice was muffled as I looked back at her, "They're rich and super snobby. They don't eat in local eatella."

Briggs grunted as his boots hit the road. He flexed his newly upgraded level-two muscles, a sudden orange glow illuminating the dark fabric of his uniform. With a low grunt, he slammed his palms together, channeling his newly enhanced element. A concentrated jet of bright, high-temperature flame erupted from his hands, instantly melting the ice on the road and engulfing a cluster of rushing zombies. The infected collapsed into ash before they could even reach the vehicle. Beside him, Jolie’s vines whipped out of her sleeves like green lightning, piercing through the foreheads of three zombies simultaneously and tossing their bodies into the snow.

They are dangerous. If ever Dr. Jhero orders them to attack us, to kill us, or to eat us alive, they wouldn't hesitate to do it. They've gone out of their mind and lost control over their body. And I just notice it now, their eye color changes too. Those who were turned into zombies, none of them have their original eye color. Because their irises were now blue, like those blue that you see on computer screens.

Invincible. Akin glanced down at the student’s face, illuminated by the moonlight. He recognized her now—her name was Anita. She had rejected him countless times back when life was normal. She had always laughed off his advances, dismissing him without a second thought. “Well, who’s laughing now?” he sneered, kicking the lifeless body aside. The female zombie made a guttural sound, almost like a laugh, and Akin shot her a warning glare. She fell silent, her head tilting back to its eerie angle.

My father and mother entered into their room leaving us to take in what had just occured in front of our eyes. As the guards led the vampire away, his smirk never faded. It sent chills down my spine, seeing how he continued to laugh at all of us, mocking our ignorance of the huge scale plan his people were planning against us. I felt we were like pawns in a much larger game, and the stakes were higher than ever before.

Gavin stepped forward— his face radiating confidence. “Get ready guys, we are going to have to fight," Gavin's voice cut through the panic. His expressions was neutral. His grip firm against his soulcutter. Gavin's words were like a shot of whiskey to the other players. They quickly pulled out their weapons prepared for war. The team sprang into action, their weapons clinging wildly as they clashed with the zombies. Gavin dodged the giant's sword, his own blade slicing through the zombie's arm. Barbara and Zoe took on the woman, their movements lightning-fast as they dodged her claws. Nancy and Boris faced off against the hulking mass, their swords biting deep into its flesh.

They just kept coming. "They are zombies!" Jack screamed, reloading. "Tech-zombies!" Sebastian didn't have a weapon heavy enough. He looked at the Nullifier. He looked at Harper. "Do it!" Harper slammed her hand onto the needle. STAB. The machine woke up. HUUUUUUUM. A low, deep vibration began to fill the room. The skulls on the walls started to chatter. "It needs time to charge!" Braun yelled, throwing a Molotov cocktail (made from rubbing alcohol) at the horde. "We have to buy her two minutes!"
