His first sight of the city gates confirmed that they had not been exaggerating.
At first he simply took in the wonder. The massive gates were of highly polished timbers, strapped with ornate, heavy iron. The size alone made him realize that an immense amount of work had gone into their construction. What took his breath away, however, was that inset into each side of the gate was the image of a Dragon. Clearly representing the Guardians, the one on the left was composed of glittering quartz and pearl, scintillating in the growing daylight.
