After the crash, I’d told myself I would never step foot on a plane again, but Nathaniel had convinced me. He called the crash a fluke, a one-in-a-billion accident that wouldn't happen twice. Still, as the small aircraft dipped toward the turquoise water, my heart was in my throat.

My pulse hammers against my throat, threatening to burst it's way out any moment from now. After I was whipped, Cody and the Black Void deplaned, leaving my bloodied, mangled body on the plane with an inexperienced pilot. Our plane crashed into the Redwood forest that day. It is a miracle that I survived. The pilot wasn't so lucky. The rescue team found his head decapitated from his body and thrown by the force of the explosion a few meters from the plane.
