About what it is to be the daughter of a man who trusted the truth more than he trusted his own safety. The book is reviewed in three national publications in the week of its release. Two of the reviews are the kind that a first-time author does not anticipate receiving — serious and specific and written by people who have read it rather than read about it. The third review is in a financial publication and is largely concerned with the Blackwood Holdings story as a corporate narrative, which is not the book I wrote. I read it with the equanimity of someone who has learned that not every reader is your reader and that this does not diminish the ones who are.

The first review I read was from a literary publication that described the book as unflinching and specific and written with the particular authority of someone who had lived inside the thing she was describing rather than observing it from outside. The second review used the phrase inside view. Not from the methodology. From the book. From the chapter about the Marlowe's dinner and eating the meal alone and going home with every piece of yourself intact. The third review was not a professional review. I checked the time and found out we have both been chatting for almost an hour. I like him already, he was a sparkling conversationist and being friends with him won't be that bad. I switched the tab of my browser to GoodNovel website, I schemed through my reviews. It increased a bit, I was glad but not really happy. I was expecting more reviews, being used to my readers always commenting and what I'm seeing right now. The reads increased drastically but not the reviews.
