The Price Of Fate
“Those four years were like a phantom to me. Sneaking. Hiding. Empty promises.”
My eyes burned.
Tears rose faster than I could swallow them.
“While you lived,” I said, the words coming sharper now, “I waited. I waited, and waited, and waited.”
My voice cracked on the last word.
“I waited for you, Keiran,” I whispered, and the pain in my chest turned molten. “And then when your father announced your engagement to Beverly, and you didn’t push back…”
I laughed once, bitter and broken.
“I knew then I would have to wait all my life.”
