“The throne is cursed? Is that what you were trying to say?” “Yes, miss. No one touches the throne even if it’s to clean it. It was engraved and molded by what is known as “hellfire”. It is of pure gold and burns anyone who touches it mistakenly or intentionally and the burn would never heal. Only the destined king can touch it, our past queens never touched it and any one of them who tried to, died from the incurable injury.” Darius explained as everyone stared at me in shock and dread or to be specific, my hands on the throne arm.

I slowly walked forward, my heart racing as I tried to register what was going on. “I leave tonight, I need you to make sure no one tries to steal my throne while I’m gone. I may have spared your life in the human realm, but if a slip up happens in my kingdom, under your guard, I will kill you.” The man sounded excited about death, as if he hoped the person would fail. I turned the corner entering a huge room. A single golden throne sat in the middle of dais. Gold skulls sat at the end of each armrest, the back of the throne had angels falling from the sky into a pit of fire carved into it. Gold was moulded into bones and created the base of the chair.

The floor beneath them began moving. Everyone stepped back. The center of the vault opened. A circular platform rose from below. On it stood a black chair. It looked ancient. But beneath it were glowing screens and biometric scanners. Ava stared. "That's the throne?" Victor nodded. "The original Black Rose throne." Daniel laughed bitterly. "You actually built a throne?" Victor smiled. "Power needs a seat." Ava shook her head. "This is insane." Victor looked at her. "Sit." "No."

It would have been a magnet to art lovers but I saw no unique beauty in those old yet well-sculptured stones. The room smelt of lemon tea and red velvet cake and alas! I was quite right in my suspicion because a mug of streaming lemon tea and a slice of red velvet cake sat on the table in front of the throne. The throne was ivory in nature and I began to wonder if it was gotten from elephant tusks because it was as creamy and as silky as an elephant's tusk.

Elara’s POV The air crackled with power. Elara stood frozen as the wraiths remained kneeling, their hollow eyes fixed on her. The weight of their expectation pressed against her chest, stealing the breath from her lungs. “Take the throne, Elara.” “You were always meant to rule.” Their whispers twisted through her mind, wrapping around her like an invisible chain.
