Chapter 33 – Ana The marble floor felt like ice against my bare knees. I knelt in the center of the massive throne room, my head bowed low in a sign of forced respect. I kept my hands clenched tightly in my lap to stop them from shaking. My eyes were fixed on the Alpha King’s boots. They were polished black and spotless. They looked hard and cold, just like the absolute power he used to control every single second of my life.

Real alarm. “Step away from it.” Liora froze at his tone. Then the throne called her name. Not aloud. Inside the chamber itself, in the mountain, and inside her. “Liora.” My body locked immediately. Because I heard it too. The voice carried through the cavern like breath moving beneath stone, ancient and impossibly powerful. The throne was alive. And it wanted her. Silver light exploded across the floor beneath Liora’s feet as the runes surrounding the throne ignited fully for the first time in centuries.

“Neither will I.” The child cries out. “Please don’t leave me.” I pull him close. “I’m not leaving. I’m changing the world for you.” The Arbiter raises his hand. Then let the throne break. Everything shakes. Pain explodes through my chest. And just before it consumes me, one thought burns clear If the throne breaks… Who will the gods fear next?
