Dear Reader Thank you for reading the first chapter of the book called, My Perfect Mess. My Perfect Mess was originally written as an Interactive Story Game. I am in the process of adapting it into a novel form. The original version contains a great deal of dialogue to fit the platform for which it was intended. Though you can enjoy the story in its interactive format too as currently published. (eg when Becca speaks, the format will be as this: Becca ~ “What is there to explain, Matt.”)

“The company, the estate, the shares. I'll give you 50 percent of it. But you have to let go of that Mayer girl. She'll only taint our legacy, and you know it." Stefan didn’t speak immediately, he just looked at him without blinking. Jeremiah Sterling was really losing himself in this game of power. Then, slowly, he stepped forward. One step, then another. He stopped in front of him, close enough that Jeremiah had to tilt his chin slightly to meet his eyes. Stefan gaze was sharp and unreadable.

His eyes searched mine with a look that made my even breathing difficult. “What happened?” His voice was dangerously soft. “Marcus said that girl cornered you.” “I’m fine.” I wasn’t. But I would be. “What’s going on? What did you discover?” Gavin’s expression shifted. Something cold and lethal slid across his features. “Sterling poisoned our players.” The words didn’t make sense at first. “What?” “Sterling drugged our team,” Gavin repeated. “And we have proof.” One of the men in suits… he was obviously in his late fifties, and was official-looking…stepped forward.

The Sterling ancestral estate was a sprawling fortress of grey stone and old money, tucked away in the hills of Westchester. It was a place designed to make people feel small, and for twenty-six years, Julian had played his part in his father’s shadow. Tonight, the shadow died. The heavy oak doors didn’t just open; they groaned under the force of Julian’s entry. Behind him, Marcus and two other security detail members followed, their faces grim. Julian didn't wait to be announced. He strode into the library, where Arthur Sterling sat by a roaring fireplace, swirling a glass of amber liquid.

"The board member. The one who was so worried about the 'valuation' this morning." Julian’s eyes darkened into twin pits of obsidian. The predatory stillness I had seen in the elevator returned. "Sterling. The quiet one. The one who’s been on the board since your father’s time. He played the worried diplomat while he was holding the detonator." "He’s not The Architect," I said, shaking my head. "Sterling is smart, but he’s not a visionary. He’s the courier. He’s the one who gave The Architect the blueprints to my father’s mind."

Inner Devil 2: “???” Sterling further explained, “Sterling attended one of your father’s business talks in Halliport. You were there. To be honest, the first time he saw you, he was smitten. But the word was, you had high standards and rarely dated. Sterling’s company wasn’t thriving at the time. He didn’t think he was worthy.” Inner Devil: ‘Is he talking in the third person?’ Inner Devil 2: ‘Wait. I can’t wrap my head around this.’

My younger brother, Ryan Sterling, even found himself a girlfriend from a well-off family. Over the years, I had tried to divorce her countless times, but I never succeeded. Perhaps it was because she knew I would never be able to leave her. One night while I was asleep, she tried to castrate me again. I was terrified and tried to run. However, she got to the door first and locked it. In the darkness, I stared at her perfectly fine legs. She held up a knife, cackling. "Honey, where do you think you're going? Once you're broken, you'll be mine forever."

If Serena thought she could live a perfect life with Ben, then she was dead wrong. Stacy’s fingers traced the rim of her glass as her mind formed a plan. Serena, my dear, you might have to share. She laughed, throwing her head back, the sound echoing through the empty room. Ben Blackwood was the ultimate prize. And she was about to play the most dangerous game of all. ******

She stood up, the movement fluid and predatory, like a panther uncoiling from rest. The jumpsuit whispered against her skin as she walked to the edge of the bed, the muzzle of the gun now inches from my forehea

he asked, his voice cold and smooth. Lauren felt her hand become sweaty, but she clenched her fist hard and tried to stabilise her breathing. She looked at the man with a determined expression, “I’m Lauren Sterling, and we seem to be in the same situation, why don't you choose me? I need a groom and you need a bride, isn't that perfect?” The man was a bit stunned at first, then his eyes became sharper. He looked at Lauren intensely and Lauren also met his gaze with hers that carried desperation.
