I shouted, hoping someone would hear. “And you are?” a woman’s authoritative voice called down from above. “I’m—” I hesitated, my thoughts racing. “Yes! I didn’t quite get that! You’ll have to speak up!” “I’m Jade . . . Jade Ishola!” I finally said, thinking, 'What’s the point of lying now?' “Welcome to the Family, Jade,” the woman said. Seven columns of bamboos raised, creating a passage through the wall. “He was meant to leave you alone in the forest. We can’t afford to have anyone weak among us again.”

All we wanted was to be Jacob and Sadie and be free. I found a woman by the name of Doctor Riley Kim. She is a well-known Psychiatrist here in Baker with a hell of a reputation. She is also very expensive and hard to see. I got an appointment for Sadie and me two weeks after Sadie turns eighteen. We hoped she would work with us once we told her our situation. We needed her to see Sadie as a mentally healthy woman. We needed her to see how wrong Sadies reports were. The only thing we worried about was how the doctor could get ahold of Sadies records without giving our location away. It wasn't going to be easy, but we had to try something.

She hadn't died-unfortunately-but was shaken enough to keep her off-balance. "Not dead yet," Jayla muttered to herself, a hard smile tugging on her lips-" but shaken. That's good enough for now." She was pleased with that image of her sister being helpless, lying in that hospital bed-so meek and weak. The whole neighborhood had thought of Jade for all those years as the "peacemaker"-way too sweet and far too good. But Jayla knew better. It must be exhausting,” Nadia’s lawyer, Hannah said with a smile. “Yeah, it’s challenging. But it’s for a good purpose,” Jade answered. "How's living in Starlington, Have you gotten used to it?" Nadia asked her referring to their earlier conversat

Whatever they were talking about sounded important. "We should have been informed of all this earlier; then, we could have done something to stop it from happening", my mum whispered angrily. "They have put not only her life but ours on the line. I always knew this would happen." "you can't blame Luna", my dad defended. "I'm not blaming Luna; I'm blaming the gods and goddess. I'm blaming the elders, and I'm blaming her mother." I was about to walk in and ask what they were talking about when Jack spoke. "can you stop calling her Luna her name is Blair, and it has been for the past 18 years"

Chapter 1 Jade stepped out of her sleek black sedan, the engine purring to a stop in the driveway of the suburban mansion. The night air was thick with the scent of freshly cut grass and distant barbecue smoke, a far cry from the neon-lit clubs she usually worked. She paused for a long moment beside the car. At 25, with her long raven hair cascading down her back in loose waves that caught the faint glow of the porch lights, emerald eyes that sparkled under streetlights like polished gems, and a body honed from years of pole dancing—curves that could make a man forget his vows—she knew she was the perfect hire for a bachelor party.
