Ainara sat at her mother’s bedside, tears streaking her face, while Andres stood near the window, his fists clenched, his mind torn between guilt and fear.
Jaime’s presence filled the room with authority. His eyes were sharp, his jaw tight. He looked first at Andres, then at Ainara, and the weight of his stare was unbearable.
“Do you think I didn’t see?” Jaime’s voice was low but cutting. “You two. In bed. Together.”
Ainara flinched, clutching her mother’s hand tighter. “Uncle—”
“Don’t,” Jaime snapped, his tone like steel. “Don’t insult me with excuses. I know what I saw. And I know what it means.”
