The W.R.X. rolled to a low growl in the Michaels’ drive, engine hot from the run. The house hadn’t changed—white weatherboard, slate roof, neat beds—only the air had: a held breath over old memories. Please let them be alive. “Hey,” Tara said from the back, a hand to Jake’s shoulder. “You okay?” He wiped at the corner of his eye and lied like sons do. “Yeah.” Zak cracked his door, checked the street. “Ready? Moment of truth.”

He said as I got in and rode off. Tara lives in one of the best/boring neighborhoods in town. The streets were brightly lit but the houses, quite the opposite. Her house wasn’t difficult to find as it stood out like a sore thumb with the loud music bursting from it and light headed teenagers making out and puking in the bushes. For someone from such a neighborhood, she was very bubbly. I parked a few blocks away on a lawn that had a sign saying ‘KEEP OFF’. As I got into the house I made my way straight to the kitchen where I knew Jake would be, mounted beside a keg.

Jake felt a little frustrated because it was not the first time Tara was acting weird. So just like what he did before, he asked her carefully what's wrong. "Are you not feeling well?" Jake asked as he tried to downplay it. He wanted to believe that she was only indifferent because she was sick. That idea was more acceptable to him and less scary. Tara shook her head. She released a heavy sigh before speaking softly, “Jake, I still think it’s best to stop seeing―”

"And why wouldn't I? You've torn my life apart. Even as a ghost, I wouldn't let either of you escape." With that, she turned to face the audience. Her voice rang out, stopping Jack just as he tried to flee. "Everyone, check this out! Tara has been having an affair with Jack. All her kids are actually his! These two shameless monsters drained me of my money and even infected me with an STD!" Her words hit the room like an explosion. The crowd's gaze fell on Tara and Jack, filled with disbelief, shock, and utter bewilderment. Some couldn't wait to watch the chaos play out.
