“For that witch!” Yuna hissed at Sierra. “Say that again, and you’ll regret it!” Unknown to them, Yuna Kim was a renowned Korean actress in China where Jake had been living for the past five years. However, no matter how she tried to get Jake’s attention, she had failed. Jake insisted that their relationship three months ago had been a mistake. He had saved her once from a rich tyrant at a bar when she had been drugged, and she had consoled him when he was having a meltdown.

Jake started laughing so much that he slapped his thigh exclaiming, "Yes, that's it!" Easing us all a bit more. It made me happy that even in this tense situation we were able to laugh. "I guess I'm next," Xavier then said when our laughter died down. Four of clubs. "Leave everyone else to me." This action seemed to catch Jake off guard. He wasn't fully aware of the next bits of the plan, so I wasn't surprised. "You can't be serious! They have weapons you know. You can't possibly beat them all on your own!" Jake raising his voice made us all look at him with seriousness settled in our faces which made him shut up and calm back down.

He needed to be calm to know the way he would react to what he was hearing. "Yes, Alpha." There was silence in the hall as Jake gazed fiercely at Tyler with red eyes. All his plans were not successful after all. All what he had thought would be of help to him but he was wrong, absolutely wrong. He shifted his gaze to Joe. "Get all the strong fighters and trackers. I'm giving Moonshine pack a surprise visit," he uttered with Joe and Tyler sharing a glance but none of them could say anything. Though Jake had spoken as if he wasn't angry, the color of his eyes could dictate his mood.

I raise a brow. Natalie chuckles. "I've worked with them, Jaxon. I've seen how they follow you and take every play you give seriously. That's the kind of loyalty you see between family members, not just teammates." She pauses. "What about Jake? Is he in your pack too? Is he a werewolf?" The mention of Jake makes my mood darken immediately. "No. He's human." Natalie raises an eyebrow, clearly picking up on my tone. "Is that jealousy in your voice, Jaxon?"

“We could have fun with you. What a shame.” A shiver of disgust ran through me and Kohen struck his face hard enough to make him fall. “Is he a.. human?”I hesitantly asked while trying to observe him. “A shape-shifter. They are a rare species and highly annoying because they can shift into any species they want without actually inheriting their power.”Jake answered, looking pissed off. “I hope I didn't overstep, but I don't know your warriors and wasn't sure who to trust, so I made a judgement call.” I nodded “you did the right thing, Jake, thank you.” I told him gratefully. I know from the stories Quinn has said to me from growing up that she thinks of Jake as family, and he clearly feels the same way about her. I have a lot of admiration for him for stepping up the way he has tonight; not many betas would step in and take charge the way he has whilst Liam and I have been in shock and not thinking straight. “We can head out to start the interview once we hear what this rogue has to say for himself”.
