“Nobody’s watching you.”
Jonah shook his head. “They are. Everyone’s watching me.”
Dominic leaned forward. “They’re not. You’re just not used to crowds. Give it time.”
The food came—steaming plates of fried rice, chicken, and plantains. Jonah hesitated, then picked up his fork. One bite, and his eyes widened.
“This is… good,” he said with surprise.
Matteo laughed. “Told you.”
For the first time that day, Jonah ate with real hunger. Dominic watched quietly, his chest aching with a mixture of pride and sorrow. His little brother, alive, eating with him. It felt unreal.
