This constant gnawing fear that the ground was about to give way beneath my feet. Third period arrived like a reprieve. AP Literature. Bonnie was in her usual seat. Third row by the window. She wore a gray sweater and her hair was in a low ponytail. She did not look at me when I walked in. She did not acknowledge me at all. She just stared at her book like it held the secrets of the universe. "Good afternoon," I said. "Open your copies of Jane Eyre to chapter twenty three." Paper rustled and backpacks unzipped. Bonnie turned to the right page without looking up.

I need to find Jareth. I need to know where he got this or who owned it. As I reach the hallway, the bedroom door upstairs slams open. “You should have told me before it got this far!” a woman yells. The "enthusiasm" has turned into a full-blown argument. I know I should stay back, but I’ve never been good at minding my own business especially when there is tea to be spilled.
