Instead, he reached under his desk, unlocked a hidden drawer, and pulled out a black leather sketchbook. Inside, only one page had ever been touched. I asked shyly, feeling my cheeks burn ever so slightly. Jason let out a soft chuckle that vibrated against my chest. “I can see your eyes doing the thing, Elena. And I know you are busy in there.” He said, bringing one hand to my temple. I cocked my eyebrows. “What thing?” Was he a mind reader now? I mean, I knew he was right, but the fact that he knew I did a ‘thing’ was surprising. And I didn’t know what the ‘thing’ was. Jason cleared his throat playfully. “Oh, you know…when you are thinking, your eyes kinda have this glint to them, and they do not move. I only just realized that now.” He told me, which made me to scrunch my nose at him.

I go light on makeup since I plan to work up a sweat, but I do put on a smokey eye to make my green eyes pop. I head downstairs as I get a text from Jason that he’s out front. I say goodnight to my father and head out. Jason has already picked up Lacey and another warrior from training, Dean. I climb in the back with Lacey. “Hey guys,” I acknowledge all of them at once. “Hey little badass. Take down any more alphas in the last 24 hours?” Dean asks with a stupid smirk on his face. “Not in the last 24 hours, but the night is young Dean,” I reply.

I say, without thinking too deeply into it, but I wished I did. “Hmm, I didn’t know you like kinky stuff,” Mr. Jason says, smirking. My cheeks become red as I watch the smirk grace Mr. Jason’s face. He must think I am a freak to love the fifty shades series, but what am I saying. Mr. Jason spanked me to punish me. He must be into that kind of stuff already. “I won’t say I like it. I was already in the elevator. The twenty second floor was quiet. Too quiet. I walked out of the elevator and into the corridor and listened. The floor had that specific empty after hours feeling, the kind where the lights are on their dimmer night setting and the air conditioning sounds louder than it does during the day. But at the far end of the corridor, through the glass wall of Jason’s corner office, there was light. I walked toward it. I stopped outside the glass and looked in. Jason was at his desk. Alone. His head was down, reading something, a pen in his hand, completely absorbed. No sign of Daniel Reeves anywhere in the room.

OLAMIDE When I opened my eyes to a new morning, I found Jason watching me. "Morning," He murmured, looking like I had done something to irritate him even if his face was just inches away and the fact that we were both very naked. It felt unbearably intimate. "Sleep well?" Why do you care? A careless thought ran through my head, long gone before I remembered this man had told me he could read my thoughts and of all the predictions he made, not one of them had been wrong.

“Oh, come on.” Before he could stop me, I snatched his phone from the cup holder and immediately started scrolling through it. My expression twisted in horror. “Jaxon.” “What?” “There are no songs here.” “There are.” “No, there aren't. There are podcasts, recordings, battle reports, and what appears to be an audiobook about military strategy.” Daniel snorted. Ryan looked mildly interested for the first time all trip. “What kind of psychopath drives for hours without music?” “The productive kind,” Jaxon replied.

Chapter 123: The hum of the soundproofed room was almost too quiet. Jason had moved a plush leather armchair right next to my bed, his legs crossed and a laptop resting on his thighs. He had a pair of thin, silver-rimmed reading glasses perched on the bridge of his nose—a look I didn’t see often, but one that made him look dangerously attractive in a scholarly, focused way. He hadn't left my side for hours, typing away at some multi-billion dollar merger while I lay there staring at the ceiling.
