"They always arrive before the ending." The notebook on the desk suddenly burst open. Words raced across every page. Not one story. Thousands. Millions. Each page showed a different ending. In one... I relished the moment because I was unburdened by the worry of limited information; I had more than enough for a fun distraction. As evening turned to night, and Dylan nodded off, I felt the space around us shift into a comforting quietude. After ensuring he was asleep, I turned to Ajax. “I won’t do something like this again. I understand you might be doubtful about my actions today,” I began, knowing how peculiar I must’ve seemed. “But don’t worry. This will be the last time.” With the plot of the novel I was familiar with, I felt an urge to change things. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed when he miraculously avoided his tragic end.

Their pain was real, their joy was real, everything about them felt real to me and I got so attached to them since the beginning. I got so attached to them, I literally couldn’t bring myself to write the original ending I had for this book. I knew how it should end before I even started the prologue. But when I came to that moment where Jenny was supposed to actually die during the shootout at their house, I couldn’t. The pain was just too unbearable. Even though leading the kind of lifestyle they were leading, it was a very realistic and a very expected outcome to have one of them die or maybe even both of them. But I couldn’t do it.

He was sitting in a chair, cleaning his nails with that same serrated knife. “If you’re seeing this, John, I’m dead. And you’re standing there watching the world end. Don’t worry. I left you one thing. A choice. The basement or the hospital. You can’t save both. Tick-tock, hero.” John looked at the burning precinct. Then he looked toward the city hospital on the opposite side of the valley. “Fuck,” he whispered.

“Why can’t you use your brain for once? How do you expect us to get anything if he dies?” Wyatt frowned. “I didn’t know he was this weak. And even if he dies, Uncle will still make things happen.” John flinched at the word uncle. So that was it. Even in his fading state, John understood one thing clearly now—He knew exactly who was behind all of this. Johanna rubbed her temple in frustration. “That’s enough for now. We give him time to recover. Then we—” She stopped mid-sentence as gunshots erupted from outside.

They couldn't have been more than fifteen years of age and were both intelligent looking. "We are the new fates, brothers Jackson and Nowell and you two are Rai, the Grim Reaper and Sebastian, a Death & Life soul cultivator, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," Jackson stated and presented his open hand to us as he stepped closer. Rai shook it first and said we needed to clean up the mess. "We will deal with it, you both enjoy your newly engaged selves," Jackson grinned. We both thanked them profusely and stood back as they waved their hands over the corpses and the bodies and blood all vanished.

I am now sobbing, and tears roll down my cheeks. “Then I guess we have very little to talk about now. Fare thee well Alicia.” He says. I still have the lump on my throat and I am very angry. I am ready to die now but I am still afraid. I don't want it to be painful, I just hope it will be quick. John turns to face the switch. I close my eyes. That’s when it all happens.
