San Diego had me feeling differently. It was like I became Alex Gray the moment I drove into the city. My personality changed over the following two weeks as I followed Jordan Reed. He was the Vice President of The Reapers and second in command. I knew that if I could get close to him, I was as good as in. He had a set routine and after two weeks, I knew it by heart. He liked to frequent the bar on Broadway in East Village. It also happened to be the whole club’s favorite spot.

My fingers itched to reach for the gun at my hip, the same one Damien had pressed into my hand the day he left—to protect myself, even from those closest to me. And here I was. You’re too late.” I hated how calm he sounded. How composed. Like he *wanted* me to pull the trigger. “What did you do?” I asked, stepping forward until we were nose to nose. He smirked. “What you never had the guts to. I tore the rot from the inside. I broke the illusion of your perfect empire.”

For a community of people who were always fetching for gossip, everyone seemed settled in the inner parts of their households. It was better not to be aware of what was going on than to afford to be the first one that suffer the massacre that was brewing in the air. Their homes still stood the chance of getting attacked, but at least it was the safest they could be. Meanwhile, Reed was ever so comfortable in his seat. His eyes could sweep across his surroundings. “It’s just a matter of time,” he said to Jael. “History is going to write my name in eternity as the man who took over a world power single-handedly.”

I really didn’t mean to zap him. “Fuck me. That hurt!” Reed said rubbing his arm. He looked to be almost healed. He looked around the his men had already started cleaning up the dead bodies. “Report?” A man ran up to him, “No casualties on our end, we captured 4 living and the one she was fighting. All are in the dungeon.” Reed nodded and the man ran off to continue helping. “I need to see Johnnie” I said to Reed. “Please” I added since Reed had a look on his face.

Reed’s POV Reed was halfway through arguing with Carmen about whether babies could actually sense emotional tension when his phone started ringing. He glanced at the screen, it was Damian Blackwood. For a second, he considered not answering. Not out of spite—though there was some of that—but because he already knew what this call would be about. The case had crossed a line today, several lines, actually. Legal ones, moral ones, emotional ones. And Reed had spent the better part of the afternoon holding Evelyn together with careful words and professional distance, even as his own chest still felt tight from what had come out in that courtroom.

Her curiosity pushed her to come out of hiding and take a peek, only to see her father combating just like a war veteran. Back at Alexis home country, John and Jude board a plane early as possible, and because it is the Senate President of the whole federation here, he was given access as soon as possible, moreover this was his own private jet, he had all of this as asset even before he became a Senate President. Reed and I found our way into a rhythm of days that felt almost domestic in its ease, which was its own kind of strangeness. I worked in the mornings. He read — he’d gotten through three books in the past week, absorbing them with the rapid focused attention he gave everything, and had opinions about all of them. Strong opinions, offered with characteristic directness. He’d found a mystery novel he’d liked and pressed it into my hands without preamble, saying, “This one is honest,” which I’d decided was his version of a five-star review. On the second afternoon of rain, he asked me something I hadn’t expected.

Her gaze went back to the screen.. The call on his phone made John jump. He looks at the caller and then he pulls a face.

Emma After getting rid of Alpha Jackson, not a damn soul dares to meet the eyes of Reed. They know he is their Alpha now, and while he doesn’t have time to give them an announcement, I don’t think anyone can complain. Most people just want to leave the scene, and after Reed has made a phone call to have Jackson’s body removed, I follow him to his car with my pulse drumming against my neck. I’m finally beginning to understand that all those stories I’ve heard about Alpha Reed Walton are true.
