“That’s the funny part.”
Sophia’s composure shattered. “You idiot,” she snapped, her voice rising as panic bled through the control. “Why are you talking to him? You weren’t supposed to say anything.”
I tightened my grip on the weapon, my heart pounding.
“You were not supposed to talk to him,” she continued, glaring at the man on the floor. “Julius, why? What did you tell this kid?”
Julius coughed, then laughed again, louder this time. “Relax,” he said. “I didn’t tell him anything he wasn’t already walking into.”
