I grabbed a tray, choosing a simple sandwich and a bottle of water, then slipped into an empty table by the window.
As I unwrapped my sandwich, a heavy silence fell over me.
Eating alone didn't bother me, but something felt... off. My senses prickled, and Cy stirred uneasily in my mind.
I sensed them before I saw them. A group of five girls approached the table I settled at, their faces set in matching expressions of disdain. I tensed, placing my sandwich down.
"Are you a freshman?" the tallest one asked, her voice sharp and condescending. Her blue eyes brimmed with icy anger, and I could already tell that whatever this was wouldn’t end well.
