A document buried in a hidden folder marked only with a single character: E. Inside was a report. Name: Eden Kade. Status: Active anomaly. Purpose: Nullify Dormer Protocol if subject exhibits autonomous divergence. Directive: In the event of Dormer fall, Eden Kade to be monitored and either dismantled or recruited by Tier Zero command. Eden’s heart slammed in her chest. She wasn’t just created to continue Valeska. She was built as her fail-safe. A living contingency. Her breath caught as she saw the last line: > If Eden Kade survives protocol rupture, initiate contact with Lucien Black.

Messing up his life made it only easier for me to slip into Lyssandra’s, so I smile. Cade lifts his head slowly, and meets my eyes. “Erden Kryne. Always so dramatic.” This bastard had killed Sadie and her daughter and all he could think was that I was being dramatic. I fucking saw red, but I couldn't touch him yet. I couldn't kill him, because if I started hitting him, I wouldn't be able to stop, and I had a few questions for him first. Kendra sat in a chair in the corner of the room. “She died.” I crossed my legs as I took a seat on the bed and asked, “How?” Kendra explained that there had been a war between the Red Moon pack and the rogues, during which a rogue named Kade killed her. Although Kade was originally from their pack, he was exiled after killing someone else from the pack. “I’m dumbfounded,” I said. “He would execute Catrina for punching me, but not someone who tried to fight his brother?”

He lunged at the lead soldier, his bare hands tearing at the neck seal of the armor. Aradaa watched the blood spray. He watched Kaelor take a kinetic round to the shoulder and keep moving. He watched the digital forest wither as the null-bombs continued to rain down above. He looked at the Delete command. "I'm sorry, Kaelor," Aradaa whispered. His hand shook. His fingers brushed the gold light. System Format: Confirm?

“Self-destruct sequence irreversible. All organic targets will be eliminated.” Kade shifted back to human form, naked, bleeding from countless wounds, but still standing. He grabbed my hand, grip strong and desperate. “Together. Just like we promised. No more goodbyes.” Sable was already sprinting ahead with Jax. “Six seconds! Move your asses!” We ran. The hallway was collapsing around us. Chunks of concrete and steel rained down as the facility tore itself apart. Kade kept his body between me and the worst of the falling debris, shielding me even as his own blood painted the floor.

“Kade, if you don’t respond, I will come into this damn house. Your wishes be damned.” “I’m upstairs,” he croaks out. If the room hadn’t been completely silent, I wouldn’t have heard him. I take his words as an invitation and walk up the stairs. I follow the stairs up and walk down the hall until I see the only open door. I push it open the rest of the way and walk inside. My heart breaks as I take in the sight in front of me. Kade is sitting on the floor with a box open in front of him, pictures strewn across the floor, as well as little mementos. Kade looks up at me and for the first time since she died, I see the tears in his eyes. His eyes are red and puffy, his hair and beard are a mess

And for the first time since she had stepped into his carriage, Kade felt the balance tilt. He had believed himself the benefactor. Now, it felt as though he stood on the edge of something else entirely. His amusement thinned. After a moment, he leaned back into his seat, folding one arm loosely across his chest. His tone returned to casual ease but there was sharper interest beneath it now. “Very well.” His eyes darkened, the faint humor draining from them. “Tell me,” he said, his voice lowering into something quieter, heavier, “how does one kill a godlike Alpha?”

I need help, I need clarification, I need this man to stop talking in riddles and do something. "Who are you?" I ask, shivering. He steps forward, "Call me Kade. We have to leave here. Now!." Kade. That name doesn’t ring a bell, but nothing else in my life makes sense anymore, so I just grit my teeth and nod anyway. He kneels beside Cassian, pulls out a syringe from his coat, and jabs it into his thigh. I jump. "What the hell— "He'll live. For now. But you've got five minutes before they sweep back this way again. So, unless you want to die in Swiss snow, carry something and move."

“He’s spiraling.” My jaw ticked. “I know.” “Will he be a problem?” I paused. “I hope not.” “I can hear you guys.” Kade called over the creaking of insects without turning. “And no. I’m not going to be a problem.” We stopped at the threshold to the witches. Kade dropped the body with a thud, his jaw ticking with annoyance. “We’ve gone over the plan.” He said. “You do your witchy magic and revive the hybrid.”
