I exhaled the breath I’d been holding, and started typing a reply. Kai: We’re having dinner at my parents’ house tonight. Sorry, I missed your text earlier, I’ve been busy looking for a replacement for Tessa. It feels odd not having you at work. I hope you’re okay, and that this personal day is so you can rest a bit, and not because something’s wrong. I’ll see you tonight. I love you, too.
