The seven elders sat in a box of black stone above everyone else. The white haired woman stood when she saw us. She did not waste words. “Bring the King.” A gate on the far side opened and he walked out alone. Kaine. I knew it was him before anyone said the name, he was popular. His eyes had no warmth, or mercy. He wore only black pants. No shirt, no shoes and every muscle moved as if it was built for killing. The white haired woman spoke loud so everyone heard. “Kaine of the First Blood. Undefeated. Bonded to twelve Omegas before this day. All dead by his hand when they refused him.”

Kane smirked, jumping down from his horse as he stalked towards the body, his allies walking beside him, loyal cowards. Damon was yet to realise that his brother was in my custody. “What did she give you?” Nate reaches into his coat and places two things on the table: 1) A name, written in Mary’s neat hand on a scrap of paper. 2) A meeting location, coded like a casual dinner invitation. Nate taps the name once. “Rowan Kane,” he says. “That’s the Rogue King’s real name. Initials match the note. R.K.” My stomach twists violently at hearing it spoken out loud. Rowan. Kane. A name that sounds like polished charm… and a knife. Nate taps the second paper.

Who are you?” The King’s expression didn’t waver. “I am Kieran, first of the Forsaken, last true King of the Werewolves.” Jane stiffened beside me. “That’s not possible.” Kieran’s golden gaze flicked to her. “Not according to your history books, no. But your ancestors were liars.”

I assured him, and he nodded, taking a gulp of his wine. “You should get on with it already. I want you to be here as long as possible, but he also has to break a curse. We don't know how long he has left.” King Kane revealed. I filed that away. “It'll definitely take a few trials, so you should start early enough.” King Kane advised. “Thank you, your Majesty.” I left Kael's hand, and he looked at me with no words. “You know, she'd have loved you.” King Kane said, and Kael's face hardened. I could already tell who he was talking about, and I knew better than to engage him. King Kane’s countenance saddened. He loved his Queen, didn't he?

I have so much to discuss and I can see the way Kane is staring at me with his own questions. “Kane before Ella gets here I need to tell you a few things.
