Kael’s hand stayed on mine, an anchor I still needed but couldn’t fully rely on.
“You can agree with me that his death wasn't a coincidence,” I said quietly, almost to myself, not wanting to face anyone else.
Kael nodded, his jaw tight, eyes locked on mine. “That, I can be sure of,” he repeated, and there was no other explanation. His death was too sudden, it was very fishy. People walked past, nurses and orderlies with their tasks, unaware of the personal apocalypse that had just shattered my world. I felt suspended, floating between disbelief and grief.
