Kerry was on cloud nine for days. Her writing was coming along even better than in the beginning, and her life had taken on a surreal fairy tale feeling. When she wasn't busy at her computer, she was with Kyle. There was only one blip in their otherwise ideal existence. Kyle had gone off to get them some lunch because she had a hankering for a Reuben sandwich. He had no sooner left the apartment than her phone rang.

The heat radiating from the grill warmed my frozen legs. The driver's side door flew open with brutal force. Kaz stepped out. He wore his dark combat gear. A long hunting knife was strapped to his right thigh. He looked like the god of war. His amber eyes burned with absolute, unchecked fury. He did not like being delayed. He hated insubordination. "Move your ass, Kenzo," Kaz growled. His deep voice carried a dangerous, feral edge. "No," I answered simply.

I was powerless to resist, to do anything, but just at the crucial moment when he was almost done with slowly taking off my clothes, the door banged open and someone barged in. Keith glared at the door and the person entering to interrupt the heat of the moment, but his face immediately fell seeing it was his very brother, Kieran. Kieran stopped short, his eyes going from Keith to me, and then back to Keith, before lingering on me and my rather exposed skin. I wanted to cover myself but knew it was a mistake, so I didn't even attempt. I left everything there for him to see, my bra the only thing covering my breasts, as my dress was now on the ground and I was only in my panties.

I watch every move, my jaw tight. Elena and Vanessa must have followed me, because their perfume cuts through the antiseptic smell. Vanessa leans on the doorframe, her voice smooth, too casual for the moment. “You’re shaking, Kael.” I don’t look at her. “Get out.” She tuts softly, stepping inside anyway. “She’s just a breeder. You’ve never cared this much before.” That word, breeder, hits my spine like ice. I turn my head slowly, meeting her gaze with the kind of look that makes most wolves take a step back. Vanessa doesn’t. She’s too used to getting away with things.

Stephanie cooed at Jeremiah and her only responds was Jeremiah wrapping his arms around her and fixing his nose in between her neck and shoulder “Ehh…just a small joke Jer and you’re all ruffled up…” I teased causing the rest of the boys to burst into fits of laughter “Fuck off y’all” Jeremiah grumbled from his spot in Stephanie’s neck “Okay okay enough. She quickly looked around to make sure that there were no ears listening, heaved a soft sigh, and said, “I abhor what’s going on here but there is little I can do about it. I can either go along with these monsters or be sent to the food bin. I consider myself fortunate that I am at least kept from the breeding rotation. My heart goes out to both you girls and the men every time I have to stand and observe you having sex like you’re some type of zoo exhibition. Don’t think the men like it any more than you do. The council is dead; Ryker killed them all and the new guy gave Kazimir the Dawn. Katherine then left Pres, now he’s basically old Gabe with a thousand times more anger issues-” “Wait, wait!
