I asked in curiosity. "I saw you? I saw you, you were scared. There were these shadow man, but I can't remember anything else. Sometimes pieces of it come back to me in my sleep." Only the whisper of wind, carrying her scent, fading into the night. His knees hit the ground. The mark pulsed once, then dimmed to nothing. And in the distance, a new shadow stirred—watching. A blood-curdling scream tore through the air as I plummeted from the skyscraper, blacking out before I hit the ground. "Lily." The camera lingered mercilessly on my mangled form. The voice was unhinged with madness. "You're finally going to die. Don't blame me. Blame yourself for being so vile. "You knew damn well I loved Shane, and you still went ahead and married him! "In this world, only I am meant to love him! Everyone who'd try to take him from me should die!" The screen quaked, the view flipped, and there was Joanna's twisted face, filling the big screen. The footage cut off abruptly.

The baton connected with the back of my neck, hard and final. Pain exploded through me, fast and blinding. My body gave in instantly, strength draining out like it was never mine to begin with. My knees buckled. The wall slipped away. Voices turned distant. Blurred. And just like that... Darkness took over.

I opened my eyes, the Fold of Shadows stretched before me—an endless landscape of crumbled ruins and twisting trees that bled black sap. The sky overhead was a dull silver-gray, like it had forgotten what light was. Everything around me pulsed with a haunting stillness, and the shadows… they moved. They didn’t just stretch and shift—they watched. They listened. Some of them looked like people who had lost their faces. Others crawled like beasts, dragging sorrow behind them like a chain. I took a cautious step forward, and the ground whispered beneath my feet, voices rising from the earth as if it remembered every soul who had fallen here.

“Let them. We’re ending this tonight.” The old church loomed in the moonlight, its silhouette stark against the night sky. Sophie and Alex crept towards it, the weight of the journal heavy in Sophie’s bag. The air was thick with tension, every shadow seeming to hide a threat. They pushed open the creaking doors, the sound echoing in the empty space. The interior was dark, illuminated only by the faint moonlight streaming through the stained glass windows. Dust motes danced in the air, and the smell of damp wood filled Sophie’s nose.

The drop would be over soon, the impact sudden and his death brief, leaving his broken body for the scavengers. Somehow Vanadine managed to retain enough sense to drag the machete clear and plunge it into the side of the crater. Then everything went black as I was shrouded in the shadows of goodbye to all that I had ever known. After what must have been hours later, I awoke in an unfamiliar place. Fog surrounds me as hooded figures chant in a strange language. I try to move but I can't because my arms and legs are tied to a boulder with weird cravings in it. I try to scream but my voice comes out as a mere whisper. Shadows dance on the walls of this desolate cave before the ground begins to shake. The hooded figures fall to their knees and keep their eyes on the trembling ground.
