My heart raced with excitement as I turned to the first page. The words danced before my eyes, weaving a narrative of forbidden knowledge and clandestine affairs. The Silence in my room pressed against me, too loud. I shoved the journal under my pillow, hidden but close, like keeping the words there made them less dangerous. Safe. Secret. At least for now.

Tell no one. That’s the rule.” Her warning was sharp and final.

Cara returned holding a gigantic book and she found Amelia still rooted to her spot. This showed just how afraid she was of everything. “Relax, I was just kidding,” she told Amelia and if looks could kill Cara would have died on the spot with the glare Amelia gave her. Why would she joke about something like that? Cara walked over to a table and she put the book she had found down. “What do you need such a gigantic book for?" Amelia asked as she walked up to her. “Protectors were highly secretive people but some of your secrets got out and we are going to be reading one today,” Cara answered.

Miracle concludes as she observes me. “ There will be a price to pay. You will have to tell the secret keeper about one of your absolute secrets - a secret you never said out aloud and never dared to tell anyone. Then, your secret will be used against you one day if it’s a weakness. A secret in exchange of a secret, that’s how this works with the secret keeper. ” Amanda chirps in an excited tone which irks me out.

I wasn’t making any sense! “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to Tara. I don’t mind…whatever this is. I won’t tell anyone, you know that. I’m your secret keeper,” he said with a grin. I sighed, my racing heart slowing down slightly. The others had caught up to us and passed around us. I waited until everyone had gone out of hearing range.

It should be kept away, hidden from prying eyes.' I watched, still dazed, as she locked the book away in a hidden compartment. 'You don't understand, Ryker,' she said gravely. 'Some secrets are meant to remain hidden.' I couldn't shake off the feeling that the book had left me with. The secrets it held, the power it promised... I was consumed by thoughts of it, day and night. I became sleepless, as my mind raced with possibilities.
