“I’ve been saving the recipe your mother loved best. I never thought I’d get to bake it for her daughter again.” Maya smiled beside me, her eyes shining as she watched the villagers murmur blessings and wave from the cobblestones. “They love you, my lady,” Maya whispered. She paused, her gaze drifting over the green hills as a faint touch of melancholy softened her face. Maya had been a Southern wolf too, torn from her own pack and dragged to the frozen peaks to serve as a palace maid. Her throat was parched so she requested water which Jessica provided almost immediately.

“I don’t have any way to reach him anymore!” Claire's finger hovered over the trigger. Maya closed her eyes, tears spilling down her cheeks. Claire rolled her eyes. "Stop being dramatic. I hated this situation, but he won't tell me what the problem is.
