I blinked, trying to dismiss them as hallucinations, but then another walked right past me, its presence cold enough to ache. I swept to the side just as one was about to pass through me. I kept my head lowered, sensing its curious, predatory gaze weighing on me, questioning if I could truly see it. I remained stiff, forcing a heavy, feigned yawn. The creature hesitated, then backed away, seemingly satisfied that I was oblivious. To exacerbate our nightmare, Kaida’s return to the land of the living had nullified the sacrifice of her death; the curse we thought broken had snapped back into place with a vengeance.

Those ancient books held answers, and I was tired of being kept in the dark about the very curse that bound my fate to the brothers. I lifted the hem of my dress and placed my foot on the first step, testing its weight. When nothing happened, I released a breath and continued walking further. I had expected more traps ahead but aside from the knives that darted out of the wall and a gaping hole that opened from the floor when I stepped on the wrong step, nothing else happened. “But one of them will take it.” My stomach twisted violently. The stranger stepped forward aggressively. “She is mine.” “No,” Darius said. “No,” Kael snapped. “No,” Kaden snarled. Their voices clashed in the air like weapons. Damon’s smile widened. “And you wonder why the curse grows stronger. Three bonds pulling her apart.” The corridor lights flickered. The air vibrated. My chest tightened unbearably. I gasped, grabbing the wall. The curse writhed inside me, twisting and knotting like tangled wires sparking with heat.

I'm at the supermarket when an old woman I don't know suddenly grips my hand tightly. I instinctively shield my baby bump, but she says, "Someone has placed a swap spell on you. The dead baby is about to be transferred to your body soon." I think she's a liar, but she says, "Hurry up and try to make yourself vomit. Atrocious replied, rubbing an orb on the armrest of his chair. "Reveal? What do you have to reveal?" Draco raised an eyebrow, realizing that it must be serious if Atrocious was acting this way. Atrocious was never one to think or worry so much about anything and when he does, it meant it was something to be taken very seriously. Atrocious sighed heavily, picked up the orb, and muttered a spell. The orb became surrounded by a mist of emerald color, and an obscure figure appeared within it. "It's a curse. Your brother, the Alpha King, is cursed."

My mouth opened for a reply—but before I could speak, Amara answered. “It’s not hard to understand.” Her voice was slick like oil, slithering across the distance from her cot on the other side of the room. “Curses from Divine Spirit may not always be literal…but pieces of them are true.” The men turned to face her. “The fourth part of Jasper’s curse?” she said. “Have you forgotten? She’s destined to destroy powerful supernatural creatures—so perhaps…” Her tilted her head and frowned. “She’ll destroy Sebastian just like Christine destroyed his father.”

She probably doesn’t even feel the same draw of emotions that the bond was creating between us because she’s already damaged inside. “Listen to what?” I said venomously. I’m starting to actually believe that they seriously did something to my brother to get him acting this way about her. Did they curse him or something? I wouldn’t put it past them. How the hell am I going to break this curse? “She’s the one who sent you the location Adrian! She helped me in exchange for sparing her life. I gave her my word and I won’t let anyone break it for me, not even you brother. You of all people should know a thing or two about an alpha’s word” he said intensely.
