King Edward Vii Chair Novels & Stories

The room was off the main kitchen corridor, narrow and wood-panelled, with a long oak table and twelve chairs and windows that looked out over the service courtyard where two groundskeepers were moving slowly through the frost with rakes. I arrived at three minutes past ten and eleven of the twelve chairs were already filled. Mrs Gable was seated directly to the left of the head chair–my chair, with a leather-bound agenda book open and a pen already in hand. She had been running this meeting for eleven years and she looked at it. I sat down. The chair was larger than the others, which was either protocol or a deliberate architectural choice designed to make whoever sat in it feel watched fro

An IV line was discreetely hidden behind the chair, feeding him fluids or medication to keep him upright. "Marigold," he rasped, as I approached. "You look... expensive." "Dexter spared no expense, Your Majesty," I said, executing a curtsy that would have made my debutante coach weep with pride. "Sit," he commanded, gesturing to the chair on his right. Cian was already seated on the left. He was twirling a stem of wine between his fingers, his eyes locked on me. As I sat, he leaned forward, the scent of lilies hitting me like a wave.

Floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the room with morning light, glinting off the polished marble floor and the sleek ebony conference table that stretched through its center. Everything had been prepared. Crystal glasses. Leather folders. Fresh coffee. Digital projectors. Nothing was out of place. Except the chair at the head of the table. It hadn't belonged to Ashcroft Manor. Earlier that morning, twelve Red Lycan guards had carried it inside themselves. It was more like a throne. It was not extravagant and was black oak carved with crimson wolves winding around its frame. The King of House Knight never sat in another man's chair amd no one dared to question it.

In addition to the five occupied chairs, four more sat vacant. One of the seated men was significantly larger than his fellows, in girth more so than height. His high-backed chair—more of a throne, really—was larger and more ornate than the others as well. Intricate carved runes covered much of the chair’s dark wood surface. The special chair left little doubt that this man was the leader of the group.
