I was drawn to him with an inexplicable force that made my heart stumble. He stepped closer, lowering himself to my height. A fleeting smile ghosted across his lips. “So you’re the girl hiding in the woods,” he said, his voice low and rasped. “I’ve heard the rumors, the black wolf that haunts the full moon.” I said nothing. My voice unused for years, maybe I've forgotten how to speak. I only stared. “No need to fear, my dear,” he murmured. “While they see disaster, I see potential. I am Alpha Xareth Morryn. Alpha of Crimson Dusk.”

I barked. The crowd’s cheers sputtered into silence. I didn’t repeat myself. They scattered like roaches, the guards yanking the loser’s corpse out of the pit like trash. The victor limped after them, smart enough to know his purpose was served. I stayed seated. Waited. The big stone doors groaned open again… and there he was. Julian. Cloaked in black, boots tracking in dried mud and secrets. His face calm, but I saw it in his eyes—something darker, sharper, burning.

“I’m Julius. This is Liam and Mark. We’ll be your opponents since you fools thought you could just walk in and win.” He says it like we’re already buried. I take a long drag of my cigar, blow the smoke right in his smug face, then toss it to the floor. “I don’t need introductions.” I crack my neck left, then right. “I need blood.” I toss my gun aside, unsheathing my twin blades, forged with wolfsbane and reinforced silver. The blades hum. “Let’s dance, assholes.” They move like lightning. Julius lunges for me—fangs bared, claws slicing through the air. I twist, barely dodging as he rakes a claw across my chest armor. The metal screeches in protest but holds. Bastard has strength.

∆ALPHA KING ADRIC'S POV∆ When my carriage pulled up to the main entrance of the Frost Pack house, I didn't let anyone come near us. I took off my dark coat, wrapped Julian up tightly so not a single inch of his face or torn clothes could be seen, and gathered him securely into my arms. I commanded one of Blake’s nervous servants to lead me straight to the royal suite prepared for my arrival. The head house servants bowed as I passed through the halls, completely unaware that the unconscious boy held against my chest was actually Julian, the lowest, most abused male servant in their entire pack.

Julius’ eyes were completely black as he crawled off the bed and onto the floor, half-naked, searching for the exit. Reed knew to stay alert when the seal tattooed on the beta’s back emitted a black mist. Julius had no idea of this, unable to see it. So far, the seal had done a good job keeping his malicious intent restrained, but his core was always seeking freedom. Quickly, Reed chased after him.

Michael declares. Christopher looks at Rosalie. “We, your loyal cousins, will defend your honor my lady.” Rosalie rolls her eyes in annoyance but is just as amused as she is embarrassed. Julius and the twins begin walking towards each other like the room is a battle ground. “Wow, wow,” Ben interjects. “Listen guys, Julius was a cage fighter for a while to make money when he left the family business. There’s no need for blood shed.” Ben says freaking out.

As far as Julian was concerned, the engagement ceremony had been a total failure. He had not gotten what he had wanted from it, contrary to what his guests might think. Instead, annoyingly, he had gotten a fiancée. That had not been part of his plan. If his plan had worked, Alpha Black would be grovelling in the royal dungeon at this point of the night, and the entire Blacksword pack would be at Julian’s mercy. But as it turned out, Alpha Black was playing his cards close to his chest, careful enough to not take one step wrong where Julian could catch him.
