The Kings Omega
It was the one place in the castle where Kaelen felt he could breathe.
He arrived before Lyra, the climb up the winding, narrow stairs a physical manifestation of the ascent he was forcing his mind to make. He had to rise above his grief, to become the king his kingdom needed him to be. He stood by the large, crystalline lens of the great telescope, its glass clouded with age, its gaze turned towards a sky he could no longer see with any clarity.
The door creaked open, and Lyra stepped inside, her movements silent and sure. She was not dressed for a clandestine meeting, but in the same simple, dark leather she always wore, a blade at her hip. She was a weapon, and she knew it.
