I cut him off softly.
His eyes snapped to mine. I held his gaze, steady and nflinching.
“I’ve seen them together,” I continued. “More than once.”
His face paled.
I leaned forward slightly. “And they’re planning to meet again.”
That did it.
That was the crack, his composure slipped. “When?” he demanded, his voice sharper now.
“A masquerade party,” I said. “Tomorrow evening.”
His hand slowly came up to his mouth.
I could see it now. The realization, the betrayal, the humiliation. Everything is crashing in at once.
