Why would Maggie’s ancestors want to conjure and evil spirit or raise the dead? Fascinated by the pull of the words on the page, she softly whispered the Bring Forth the Dead Incantation. A cold chill swept over her and her temples throbbed. She carefully placed the ribbon down the interior binding of the pages and closed the book shut. The crystal didn’t look quite so out of place as it lay against the bottom of the pages. In fact, there was so much room between the size of the cover and the size of the pages that crystal tucked right up into the gap when she set the book on end. It was a perfect fit.

I squinted my right eye to take a glimpse, and my eyes open wide when I saw that I'm already standing on a gigantic tentacle. And before I could react, I already hear its voice inside my head. "I am the Sea Kraken, and I am the Guardian of the Water. I am here to help," It said as it lifts me to its head level. It places me above its head and abruptly ascends towards Charybdis.

Vampire blood, when Melinda touched it, the rock thrummed, older than any of them; Diana’s frost curled around that ancient heat like a leash, and they both shivered at the cost

Raelor protested. “You don’t have to. Your face says it all.” Suddenly, a massive creature burst out of the well. “Oh shit, it’s the land kraken. Highest ground-level threat right now,” Raelor muttered behind me. I knew exactly what that thing could do. I kept switching between cameras along the path, some of them already damaged by the kraken. Then I saw something that made my stomach drop. “Vaerith…” Raelor said my name, but I was already standing up slowly, frozen in shock.

The city beyond the alley was waking: sirens dopplering closer, helicopters thudding overhead, but here, in this crater of our making, time was a held breath, a heartbeat skipped, a promise broken. Kraven’s POV Granny laid the leather-bound book on the dining table with both hands, like it weighed more than just paper and ink. The spine was cracked, the cover faded, but I knew—by the look in her eyes—that this wasn’t just some relic. This was a weapon. “Do you know what this is?” she asked, her voice low, heavy with the kind of gravity that silences even a room full of armed men.

The long tunnels of the mountain are dimly lit with torches. The jagged stone walls dancing with shadows. My bare feet lumber against the cold earthen floor.
