The meet-up?” I ask, shifting gears to upcoming alliances. “Wouldn’t miss it. Keilani’s looking forward to it too,” he replies, and I can almost see his grin through the phone. “Great. See you then,” I say, ending the call. I sit for a moment longer, the information settling in. Kris was honest, and her work is legitimate. It’s a lot to process, another layer of complexity in the already intricate tapestry of our lives.

She was undoubtedly hopeful for a positive response. However, when I shifted my gaze to Ryle, his reaction was far from what we expected. He appeared disgusted by Crisha's confession, assessing her from head to toe and scanning the letter in front of her. “This is the lamest thing I’ve ever received.” One of his friends from the table cheered. “Another heartbreak brought to us by Mr. Popular!”

She put out her head from the side of the building where she hid, and could hear argument between Kris and Richard. "Kris, you don't get to do anything I didn't ask, do you here me! Richard yelled. "You don't get to control me anymore, Richard. I have endured shit from you, just because we decided to work together. If you think you can do anything to me, then you must be out of your damn mind! Richard looked visibly surprised..Why was Kris becoming confident? he didn't like that, he thought. Richard walked closer to her, lifted her face, with his hand under her chin.

“Good. Then you’ll understand when I tell you this only once.” Piper swallowed…..or tried to. His grip made it barely possible to force the lump down her throat. “Stay the fuck away from my plans,” Kris hissed, his breath icy against her cheek. “Don’t interfere, Piper. If you do, you won’t just get hurt—” His face darkened. “—I will come for you. I swear it. After I’m done with that bitch Elsa, you’re next.” Piper’s heart raced, slamming inside her chest. She forced down the fear clawing up her throat. She steadied her shaking breath, lifted her chin as much as his grip allowed, and masked her terror with confidence.
