When he reached the gate, he placed one massive paw upon the threshold.
The sigils flared blinding gold. The bronze disk turned, then split, peeling open like a colossal eye. The spiral-shaped passage yawned into darkness, golden light tracing its curves deeper and deeper until sight was lost.
The Labyrinth was awake. Waiting.
Rivera’s squad stared, half in terror, half in awe. None of their weapons, none of their training, could explain what they saw.
Rivera’s voice came quiet, reverent almost. “Let them go.”
