“Three notes,” he said, as if handing me a bowl. “Not lullabies, just commands.”
“Sing for me.” Sable smiled wider.
“Not for you,” I said, and sang for the house.
Three notes only, but they were ours, the new song we wrote, as tonight a call would not be enough, children first, hospital second, this floor, that door and Lily’s laugh with a ridiculous hat on the moon.
