“Perfect.”
I could feel the woman’s gaze on me, cold and judging. I could hear the shuffle of something sharp, metal maybe, being prepared. I didn’t want to look, but I could feel it in the air—the weight of whatever was coming next.
My whole body trembled, the chains rattling as I tried to move, to do something, but I was powerless. They didn’t need me to fight. They had already won.
“They’re all ready,” Donald’s voice came through the darkness, cool and confident. I could barely hear the soft shuffle of feet as the woman moved around the room, preparing something. I didn’t know what. I didn’t want to know.
