She felt pain in her legs from several chafed wounds. “Look at this!” He picked up something black and hard from a stony pier nearby. “Your prince’s dragon scale!” He suddenly laughed like a madman. “We got him, my master was the one who broke the scale of the dragon god!” Leila’s heart tightened the second she saw the scale. She glided her trembling fingers along it, as if she could feel his warmth through the cold lifeless surface. The familiarity of its dark gleam and its tough and flexible texture proved it was Thorn’s scale.

It made meeting Thali even more important. "Nice to meet you, Thali." Azalia did her best to make a good impression. She was unable to take her eyes off of Thali as she spoke. The dragony looked even bigger from this close. Her thick skin was a beautiful orange colour while her scales were as red as Melech's eyes. And her eyes, two long slits currently looking right at Azalia, were a stunning yellow. Azalia was in awe of her beauty. Thali was as gorgeous as she was dangerous.

I open my eyes and see Artemis in the distance, which means Asteria isn’t far behind her. “Artemis, I need to speak to Asteria.” I say and she nods her head before she disappears again. I turn and walk back to the beach and sit down on the sand and wait. I am not waiting long when I hear a shriek as Asteria breaches the surface. Her violet eyes shining brightly and her skin glows with her iridescent scales. She nods at me before she swims closer to me. She stops a few feet away, still in the water. The water is clear and I can see her beautiful black fin. Each scale is rimmed in gold as it swishes back and forth in the water.

She stood frozen, watching her partner gorging himself on a woman’s blood. The woman was limp and lifeless, her neck and arms marred by jagged bite wounds. "Hihihi... Lamia! Why so angry?" Lui asked playfully. "Damn it, Lui! Why would you—?" “It’s delicious sucking directly from the main vein, Lamia. Do you want a taste? You don't even have to try; the blood just flows!” Lui smirked, wiping a crimson smear from his lips. "You’re insane! This is a TV station, not a morgue! How are we going to deal with the humans? They’ll arrest you!" Lamia hissed.

He scrubbed a hand over his face. “Your eyes what?” I demanded. “They uh… The pupils had the shape of a sword or cross in them, they went away after a while, but we noticed them right after the pain, when these marks appeared, burned into us.” The Beta looked at Lamia, questioningly and hopefully, like she may have an answer. “We um… completed the mating process last night, it was a little different, but I don’t think…” She started and then stopped, green eyes opening wide and she turned in my arms “Mathias, do you think? What Odeia said, about my four knights?"

But he isn’t stupid enough to try. Suddenly a Growl that shudders the very earth we stand on has all our spirit animals cowering. I see Rhett and Tobias shrink back, my own wolf shuddering at the commanding sound. “WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU TWO THINK YOU ARE DOING!” Lamia’s voice mixed with her wolf booms through the air. She comes flying out from the west side of the palace heading straight for the two fighting bears. Her eyes glow a brilliant green - her wolf pushing out her power.

Her voice sounds like it’s been run through gravel. Bella sits up, blinking, and then the urgency hits her. “Liam,” she says, half plea, half curse. She stumbles, ignores the dizziness, and lurches to the crater’s edge. They all look down. The spiral is still there, burning with faint, wounded light. In the center of the spiral, a shape is stirring—a mass of black and gold scales, battered and smaller than before, but unmistakably alive. Zayla’s breath catches. “He’s not dead.”

“Then these cells shouldn’t be capable of containing you, right?” “Correct… I am powerful, but as you can see…” Lamia looked down at her chest. “I am too weak to move, let alone try to escape.” “You’re a vampire…” Alicia said, her lip curling. “All you need is a bit of blood… Right?” Lamia’s head cocked to the side slightly, a small grin growing on her dried lips. “That is correct.” “Then why not the finest blood to offer,” Alicia smirked. “I have elven blood.”

The red scales unlike anything I had seen before, hints of gold looked as if they were painted fresh daily. As I turned my arm over, I could see where it looked as if two tail ends were touching. Resting in the middle was a circle, clearly it was made in the image of the moon. Plopping myself down on the couch to stop my pacing, I traced my tattoo gently with my fingertips. Tadeas had a matching tattoo also on his left wrist. They were simple, elegant, and powerful, I thought. It was hard to explain, having this on my wrist allowed me to feel as if he was always with me.

“I want to talk to you about something!” Fane met her half-way and noted the rather excited expression she had on her. “What’s going on?” he asked. “It must be important if you came to see me yourself.” Lana scanned her surroundings and noted that there were not too many people around. “A dragon’s scale appeared!” she said, tone low. “It’s in Swallow City—not too far away from Gin City!”
