I replied as Orel jerked in surprise. “They have twice as much as we do Themis, surely you cannot be right.” “Oh I am right, we have something that they don’t.” I winked at him. “And what is that?” Orel asked me with skeptism written all over his tone. “The most powerful legion of the last magic kingdom that survived the fall of that era and their queen.” I replied as Orel looked at me with a thoughtful look on his face before nodding. “Okay, let’s end this war.” Orel made to stand but I covered his hand with mine.

He was…the last one? How was that possible? The other two were weaker than him! How could they have killed such a strong opponent before him? It was impossible! At the same time, he looked over below the scrolls. Sure enough, he saw the other two warriors standing on the transfer array, looking at him snidely. The sight burned into his eyes. Zelter's jaw slackened and found himself unable to say anything. The spectators were right; he was the last one out after all. Just thinking about what he did flustered him. How humiliating!

The agony swallowed everything else, and a bloodcurdling scream tore out of me, my voice ringing through the empty warehouse. Even so, not one person spared me a shred of mercy. Blow after blow, I became nothing but a mangled, blood-smeared heap, until the agony burned itself down to numbness. I had no idea how long it went on. The bodyguards didn't stop until I was barely breathing. In that moment, Andrew stared at me like I was his mortal enemy, as if I had committed the unforgivable. He raised his boot and ground its heavy leather sole across my face.

Kellan’s POV For the first time ever since I became Alpha, I looked forward to when the moon ball would actually come to an end. “Thank you all for doing this with me. I look forward to the next moon ball and until then, remain focused.” My closing speech to everyone. I left the stage with my hands behind me and the crowd kept on cheering. The pace at which I motioned wasn’t a slow one and Roman knew why. “The elders of the pack would love to have a word with you, your highness.” A guard came running. Now wasn’t the perfect time to sit and discuss with them.

Morwen stood on the dais, gripping her staff like it’s the only thing holding her upright. “Last night,” she started, her voice strained, “the Hearthstone… changed. The wards strengthened. This is unprecedented.” She scanned the crowd, her eyes lingered on me too long. “Such power does not appear without cost,” she continued. “Someone in this academy has meddled with forces beyond their understanding. And I will find them.” Kael snorted beside me. “Meddled? It’s a miracle!” Elian’s eyes were widened with awe. “It feels… like a blessing.”

Lysara was standing there, her dark presence spreading out like a stain on fine fabric, yet even she seemed a bit shaken. No one spoke at first. Then one elder stepped forward from the shadows. White hair. Hollow eyes. Skin stretched too tightly across ancient bones. He gazed straight into my eyes and softly spoke a single word, its meaning lost in the depths of time, a language so ancient it seemed to echo with the whispers of forgotten centuries. I didn’t understand it. But Cassian went perfectly still beside me. The elder’s expression held no curiosity. Only fear. Ice spread through my veins. Whatever I was becoming—

"By the way, I won't be long and I'm leaving. Maybe this will be the first and last meeting between the two of us. I'll just do and follow what you said that you don't want to see me anymore, so here it will be the last day that I will show up to you. It may be painful to listen and feel but I will still accept for your own good sake," he smiled at me as I felt the pain and heaviness in his heart.
