Holly pantsed, “I could’ve helped Seraphina.” “It’s not too late,” Ivan said fiercely. “We will save her.” Their small paws were torn and bloodied, and it broke my heart to watch them suffer. “Stop,” I begged. “You don’t have to save me. This place is too dangerous—go home, please…” But no matter how desperately I pleaded, they kept moving forward. Thankfully, before they got far, they ran into the rescue squad. “The glacier isn’t a playground,” Xander barked. “Go home. Now.”

I had known this for a long time. My eyelids felt so heavy. I was ready to go. I was so tired. Selena was crying loudly, but I couldn't comfort her anymore. On April 20th, I closed my eyes for the last time and slipped away.

With that, I walked away for good. Just me, my scars, and my sorrow. They only felt the weight of my departure when I was truly out of sight. I left with nothing but a single photograph.
